Hey y’all. For some reason, I never read as much as I plan to in the summer, which is when you’d think I’d do All The Reading! This summer was particularly abysmal on the reading front, and if I’m not reading I don’t have anything to post. Womp womp. To my credit, I *have* read 40 books this year and I was 7 books ahead of my Goodreads goal, which is now down to… on track! Plus I got 10 squares on Summer Bingo. I’ll take it.
There are a few factors I don’t want to get into just yet but suffice to say it’s been an overwhelming year mentally and emotionally that doesn’t always leave space for reading when I want to. Work has been very busy as well and I’m lucky enough to love my job and my coworkers, but it’s still a long day that leaves me drained. Closing my eyes with a snuggly beagle and a book next to me happens way too often hah!
I’ve also been watching a lot of Netflix (especially comfort reruns like The Office, New Girl, Great British Baking Show) and WWE, and my husband and I binged all 5 seasons of Vikings earlier in the summer. So worth it!! That leads to less reading time but sometimes that’s what my brain needs. Comfort movies and tv and naps and zoning out.
That being said, I miss reading and I have SO. MANY. AMAZING. BOOKS both on my physical TBR and my ebook TBR and my upcoming TBR that I’m dying to get to!! I don’t even know where to begin! I feel super guilty being behind on reading and blogging but I’m trying to remember to allow myself the space to chill. This is a hobby and I always want it to be fun first and foremost. And I feel especially awful that I haven’t been blog hopping and commenting… but I am excited to get back in the swing of things this month. My plan is to read read read in September in time to post more in October, my favorite month! I’ve already printed out my Fall Bookish Bingo square π
I really appreciate if you’ve stuck around my little corner of the internet (as usual I am very active on Twitter and Instagram) and I hope to get it up and running again shortly. Here’s to many good books and crisp fall nights in our future!
Do you read a lot in the summer? Does your brain ever need reading breaks too, even if you LOVE books as much as I do? Let’s commiserate! Haha.
I didn’t read as much as planned this summer, mostly because of work and PTSD. I think that I’m probably behind schedule and it’ll be a miracle if I manage to read 40 books by the end of the year.
Still, yay for Netflix and Vikings! I still need to catch up on the fifth season.

I feel you, life happens. I try to remind myself that we all still read more than the average person haha, and that books will always be there! Yessss it’s great, I keep waiting for the season 6 premiere date to be announced.

Honestly sometimes the best thing to get back to reading is letting it go for a while. It’s ok to get some rest and be lazy AF haha β€οΈ

Thank you for saying this, it’s a hard thing to internalize for some reason!! But you are so right.

I need reading breaks all the time! Especially when my mental health is taking a hit. And during those times I turn to Netflix and watch ALL THE SHOWS too. So you definitely arenβt alone in that!

I’ve found that I do too. It’s just too hard to concentrate sometimes, especially when I’m tired. Netflix to the rescue haha! But I did some rereading recently and that’s jumpstarted my reading again, which is kind of nice!

I go through phases of reading two, sometimes three books a week, then I feel all booked out and read nothing (apart from my Twitter feed!) for weeks on end! I am such a mood reader, and I totally get where youβre coming from. I really must watch Vikings!! It looks amazing (as in, some VERY handsome looking characters there! ππ) Great post, thanks for sharing π

Yep, this is me. I feel all of this, lol. Sometimes chilling with some comfort movies and TV is just what you need after a long day of work.

I agree! There’s something nice about vegging out sometimes.

This is me, exactly!! I thought I was going to read so much over the summer but it was so busy I barely read. If it weren’t for audio books I don’t know how I would get reading done. Sometimes you just need to relax on the couch and watch TV though so I completely feel you!! What does it say that I’m also behind on my shows….haha
