2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?
Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli. I liked it, but it was missing something for me and felt rushed.

3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?
American Panda by Gloria Chao wasn’t as fluffy as I expected but I loved it, while The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton had a supernatural element I wasn’t fond of.

4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?
I’m not sure if anyone read them based on my recommendation, but I definitely pushed Pride by Ibi Zoboi, A Dash of Trouble by Anna Meriano, and Royals by Rachel Hawkins a lot haha.

Best Series Started: Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian

6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2018?
Ngozi Ukazu, the author of the graphic novel/online comic Check, Please. I love the way she writes dialogue and draws characters, and her twitter is absolutely hilarious!

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?
Check, Please!: #Hockey, Vol. 1 by Ngozi Ukazu- I don’t read a lot of graphic novels and this was so adorable! I loved it and can’t WAIT for Vol. 2 this year.

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

9. Book You Read In 2018 That You Would Be MOST Likely To Re-Read Next Year?
Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett. I love a good contemporary reread!

11. Most memorable character of 2018?
Circe, from…. Circe by Madeline Miller haha. She was such a dynamic, strong-willed character with hidden depths. She was fascinating.

Circe by Madeline Miller- she has the most gorgeous way with words and writes the most three-dimensional characters. I’ll read her books forever.

17. Book That Shocked You The Most
The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox was quite shocking for unconventional reasons. That’s all I’ll say about that haha!

18. OTP OF THE YEAR (you will go down with this ship!)
Hanna and Nik from Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff. I cannot resist hate to love ships and according to my review “Hanna Donnelly is a mf badass queen and I love her. And I loved Nik!!!!” So I’d say that’s OTP worthy 😉

19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year
The friend group in Famous in a Small Town by Emma Mills, of course! She is the absolute master of writing friendship and her newest book is no exception.

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2018 From An Author You’ve Read Previously
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik.  I hope she writes fairy tales forever.

21. Best Book You Read In 2018 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure/Bookstagram, Etc.:
An Extraordinary Union by Alyssa Cole- I kept seeing it on twitter and decided to give it a chance even though I rarely read the romance genre. It was amazing!! The perfect balance of historical fiction and romance.

23. Best 2018 debut you read?
Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian. An excellent YA fantasy that uses tropes to its advantage, with a Slytherin Sansa Stark for a main character!

Best Worldbuilding: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Most Vivid Setting: An Assassin’s Guide to Love and Treason by Virginia Boecker

25. Book That Put A Smile On Your Face/Was The Most FUN To Read?
Royals by Rachel Hawkins- this was the contemporary royal book I’d been looking for! It was such a joy to read and I can’t wait for the sequel.

26. Book That Made You Cry Or Nearly Cry in 2018?
Famous in a Small Town by Emma Mills. I definitely cried.

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?
Love Sugar Magic: A Dash of Trouble by Anna Meriano. Coco meets Practical Magic, with lots of baking and family (witchy) tradition!

28. Book That Crushed Your Soul?
The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton. What else is new haha! She writes tragic circumstance in the best way.

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2018?
Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff. I’m always amazed by the formatting and how it affects the storytelling.

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?

1. New favorite book blog/Bookstagram/Youtube channel you discovered in 2018?
I am so bad at keeping track and I truly apologize. I need to be more social this year.

2. Favorite post you wrote in 2018?
I think I’d pick my Blogiversary post because it was the first time I ever got to write one! I’m really proud of myself that I stuck with my blog even when it felt challenging and that I’ve slowly grown my platform and met new friends while sharing excellent books.

3. Favorite bookish related photo you took in 2018?
I loooove the portrait mode on my mom’s phone! I picked some runner up bookish photos as well, including one of the Bookish Beagle himself 🙂

 

4. Best bookish event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, etc.)?
I wasn’t able to participate in any bookish events this year, but hopefully next year!

5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2018?
I love that this off the wall fanfic review I wrote for something I really care about continuously receives hits and views every week. It never fails to make me smile!

6. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?
It was a challenging year on a personal level- I had a lot more time for reading and blogging but I didn’t always feel like doing either (moving, job hunting, general malaise, etc). So keeping up the motivation to read and blog was difficult and it shows- I wrote half the number of posts I did in 2017 but hope to get back on track with a fresh start in 2019. I truly appreciate every view and comment I received this year ❤

7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)
Speaking of #5, my most popular post in 2018 was FanFic Feels: Not Easily Conquered while my most popular review was Ash Princess.

8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?
Top Ten Tuesday: Books With Red, White, and Blue Covers– mainly because I think it’s a very aesthetically pleasing post and I took a lot of time picking the covers.

9. Best bookish discovery (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?
The local library where I’m living now has an excellent ebook selection, and I can still access the ebooks at the library where I used to live! It’s awesome.

10.  Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?
I didn’t participate in any structured reading challenges but I did reach my Goodreads Goal and I did pretty well on the quarterly Bookish Bingo challenges from Pretty Deadly Reviews!

Contemporary: Serious Moonlight by Jenn Bennett

3. 2019 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?
Don’t Date Rosa Santos by Nina Moreno sounds really charming and filled with heart.

4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2019?
Transformed: The Perils of the Frog Prince by Megan Morrison (Tyme #3). I CAN’T WAIT!

5. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging Life In 2019?
Read more of the books I already own and was “so excited to read” once upon a time! And if I preorder a book (which I love to do), read it in a timely manner. I also want to stay more consistent with blogging and make sure it stays a fun and worthwhile hobby.
