Sometimes I am a contradiction- I loathe having to stick to a reading schedule because then reading feels like homework. I like the freedom of picking what I want when I want because I’m a mood reader. But at the same time, I love making lists and joining reading challenges! I’m doing another round of Bookish Bingo and I’m joining the inaugural Summer Reading List Challenge hosted by Read Sleep Repeat! I loved summer reading at the library when I was a kid.
I think both challenges appeal to me because at their core, they are still what you make of them. Make your own list, read what you can, etc. Light structure. And it’s very satisfying to check something off your list! Here is my list of 20 books I plan to read at some point this summer (the challenge runs from June 15th-August 15th). Many of them overlap for other challenges including ARC August; yay for double duty!
Summer Reading List
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
I Believe In A Thing Called Love by Maurene Goo
Disenchanted: The Trials of Cinderella by Megan Morrison

The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
The King Slayer by Virginia Boecker
Spindle by E.K. Johnston
Juliet Takes A Breath by Gabby Rivera
The Dragon with a Chocolate Heart by Stephanie Burgis
Song of the Current by Sarah Tolcser

Do you enjoy taking part in challenges or do you feel like they hamper your reading mojo?
Challenges definitely hamper my reading mojo! It puts a pressure on me and I just don’t function well with that haha.
But omg, you gotta talk to me about what you thought of When Dimple Met Rishi once you read it. SO good!
Yay to ACOWAR!!
I enjoyed These Broken Stars. The lead dude is ❤
(p.s. can't wait to hear back from you for the letter I sent you! 🙂 )

I definitely get that; case in point this challenge isn’t going great haha. But I’m excited to get to all the books eventually!

I struggle with lists to but I also partly need them to keep up. You have some great titles in your summer list though and I can’t wait for you to read them. I’ve been hearing really good things about Illegal Contact, so I think I’m going to download it and read it!
Happy reading, Morgan!

I feel the exact same way! I’m not doing great with this so far but it’s nice having a mini roadmap at least. Yes, can’t wait for my ebook preorder!! Thank you 🙂

I’m a fan of light structure as well 🙂 I’m not sure yet if I’m going to participate in any challenges or make a list of the books I want to read – because I probably won’t stick to said list anyway. :’) Good luck with yours, though! You’ve got a good list going on 😀

I think I’m going to scale back in the future but there’s just something about making a list that is hard to resist!

That sounds like a really great reading list! I tend to struggle with TBRs. I always find myself wanting to read something that isn’t on my list shortly after I make it. I’m currently having that problem now with my 20 Books of Summer challenge lol.

Thanks! Ummm I might be struggling with that right now haha. But the books will always be there at least!

I love reading challenges haha. I don’t know why they help me, but they totally do. I think I just love making TBR lists even though I may not follow them all the time. hahaha
EXCELLENT gif usage, obviously.

You’re so good at them! And yes, I relate to that TBR sentence on a cellular level LOL. Why thank you 😉
