The Intimidating TBR Tag

I found this tag over at Pretty Deadly Reviews and it looked fun soooo I’m doing it!

What book on your TBR have you been unable to finish?
Lily of the Nile– I’m not sure if it’s me or the book because I love reading about Ancient Egypt but I put this down after about 70 pages and haven’t had the inclination to go back, even though I want to in theory.

What book on your TBR haven’t you read because…

You haven’t had the time:
Written In My Own Heart’s Blood– talk about needing a good chunk of time to read a book! I’m out of practice when it comes to reading behemoths of this size and truth be told, I get such anxiety reading this series even though I love it!

anxious michael

It’s a sequel:
The Winner’s Crime– It’s been almost 3 years since I read The Winner’s Curse so a reread is in order before I move on to the rest of the series.

It’s brand new:
The Valiant– so many books, so little time! This caught my attention the moment I heard about it so hopefully I will read it soon.

You didn’t enjoy the author’s first book:
Prince in Disguise–Β it doesn’t come out until December but I didn’t realize it was the same author as The Taming of the Drew, which I thought was very mediocre. So now I’m a bit wary.

You just haven’t been in the mood:
The Royal We– I have this odd idea in my head that I need the perfect conditions to read this book: hours of uninterrupted reading time, a clean house that won’t distract me, a giant cup of tea, some sunshine, a blanket… so I haven’t found the right time to read yet. Silly, I know.

It’s humungous:
Alexander Hamilton– I’m sure it’s very readable and I absolutely love the musical so I want to read this biography but man is it ginormous!

Because it was a cover buy but ended up receiving poor reviews:
Starfall– I still want to read it but I’m not rushing to at the moment after the meh reviews, which is a shame because I loved Starflight.

What is the most intimidating book on your TBR?
Daughter of the Forest– I have owned this book for approximately 12 years; bought it at Borders. And I tried to do a read-a-long a couple years ago but didn’t get past 200 pages. I suspect it was a mood thing but I’m just intimidated by this book! It’s dense and detailed, and so many of my friends adore it. Lots of pressure but I’ll try again someday.

I also struggled with Lily of the Nile! I liked the sequels better but yes.. that first book is a bit hard to get into, I think.

I am surprised you haven’t read the Outlander book! I mean I totally get it but for some reason I thought you had? Maybe that was Lindsey. ANYWAY. I can’t say I know this feel bc I think the closest I feel about a series the way you do about Outlander is ASOIAF… and he’d have to PUB THE DAMN BOOK for me to have anxiety about reading it lol

Do indeed recommend a reread of the Winners Curse before! It helped my brain a lot and made me appreciate the narrative arc more!

One day the stars will align and you will read the Royal We πŸ™‚
I need to reread that. I think I may this year — esp since Romancing the Throne didn’t fill the void it left like I hoped! sobsob

Took me three tries to get through DotF! I know a looot of our friends love it but I am Β―\_(ツ)_/Β― about it. I stopped the series after book three.

I’m not sure why because I’ve read books like it that I loved but for some reason I can’t get into it.

I knowwwwwww I waited two years and got it on release day and…. I think I was so out of practice reading books that size that I got really intimidated. And the anxiety for the characters LOL. My mom’s already on the fifth book, she’s likely to catch me before I read it haha.

I’m a big fan of doing that, I think I will! I reread The Falconer before the sequel last year and I was so glad.

ONE DAY. Ahhh you should, I’m still sad Romancing the Throne was a dud.

Omg Jessie, this makes me feel so much better. You have no idea.
