Top Ten Tuesday: Books To Buy Your Mom

Fun fact: my mom and I are a lot alike, and we like a LOT of the same sorts of things! My mom doesn’t read as often as I do (she does love magazines), but she was always encouraging my love of reading by taking my sister and me to the bookstore & library, and just letting me ramble about books in general haha. Then she started watching Outlander a couple years ago and decided she wanted to try the second book- she couldn’t bear the wait for season two.Β Now she’s on the fifth book πŸ˜€ This list can definitely work for any mom, but I tailored the books to ones I thought my mom would like in particular. Have a look!

Outlander is the book (and show) that started this recent reading renaissance, so I had to include other Scottish heros and another miniseries adaptation too. My mom also loves ancient Rome, crumbling castles, Will & Kate, and British rom coms. I think I can get her to like some magic and fantasy too, especially with the historical feel and awesome characters!

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn
The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
When A Scot Ties The Knot by Tessa Dare
I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
Uprooted by Naomi Novik
The Distant Hours by Kate Morton
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett

My mom loves romantic comedies (You’ve Got Mail is a favorite), action movies, mystery thrillers, historical epics, ancestors, and of course royalty and Scotland. Anne is a bit of an inside joke; neither of us have read it yet but she tried so hard to get me to watch Anne of Avonlea as a kid!

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman
Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett
Every Breath by Ellie Marney
The Freemason’s Daughter by Shelley Sackier
Gilt by Katherine Longshore
Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida CordΓ³va
My Lady Jane by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand, and Jodi Meadows
The Secret of a Heart Note by Stacey Lee
And I Darken by Kiersten White

Does your mom love to read? Have you shared any books with her? Let me know if you have any book suggestions too!

Your mom has amazing tastes! When a Scot Ties the Knot is one of my favorite books of all-time. And yes to Vengeance Road! I need more people to pick up the book! I can’t wait for Retribution Rails.

My mom is so not a reader. My dad is — but he’s very much “only scifi and fantasy need apply.” I got him to read the first 4 HP books but other than that, he won’t read YA unless I trick him. [insert eye roll] I digress!

So if my mom was a reader… I def think a lot of my recs would be the same as yours. You know I would have the Royal We, and a Morton (or two… I mean if one is good, two is better!) Uprooted — YES. I feel like I would buddy read that with her — if only to laugh at her trying to say Agnieszka.

I am not sure I could give my mom the Hating Game, ha. My sister, though, I already gave her a copy πŸ˜‰

My dad used to read more but he’s all about spy thrillers- Clive Cussler and Daniel Silva and stuff. Ahahah I’m impressed he read 4 HP books!

Oh that’s fun to know! Now I want to read Uprooted again πŸ™‚ LOL well it’s like knowing the movies and tv shows my parents watch. I try not to think about certain aspects of it or knowing we watch the same stuff πŸ˜› Ooh I hope your sister liked it!!
